Carinthia and its lakes

Natural jewels and bathing landscapes come together in the Villach region.

Lake Ossiach is only a stone’s throw away from Hotel City. At the largest of the nine lakes, water sports enthusiasts will be in surfing and sailing heaven. Cyclists can enjoy the 27 kilometer route that circles the lake. In summer, the spa oasis of the region often reaches a bathing temperature of up to 26 degrees. On its emerald-green surface, the Gerlitzen Alpe is reflected on the northern shore, from the top of which paragliders make their way towards the lake. On the eastern shore of Lake Ossiach, the Slow Trail leads through a diverse natural landscape and European conservation area.
It is no wonder that Lake Ossiach is the venue of the international music festival “Carinthian Summer“.

The Faaker See, not far from the city center of Villach, is the southernmost lake in Austria. Looking from the Mittagskogel to the turquoise waters, a sublime feeling of almost tropical tranquility will consume you. With water temperatures of up to 27 degrees, you will never want to leave this paradise. For those so inclined, electric boats are available for tours to the island, which is located in the middle of this glorious lake. And, if you wish to explore the reed belt, you can do so by canoe.
Lake Faak is the chosen venue for the annual European Bike Week. Thousands of Harley and other motorcyclists distinguish this world famous event.

For a quick dip, the refreshing water of the St. Magdalenersee is only 3 kilometers from the Hotel City and the city center. The nearby Silbersee can also be quickly reached by bike, via the Drau Cycle Path. Plus, this lake accommodates a pier, at which the River Drau cruise ship stops.

And remember, if rain clouds do appear on the Carinthian sky, you can always escape to the KärntenTherme for the purest of bathing pleasure.
